Aquatherapy or Hydrotherapy as is was called, is an excellent adjunct to any pre or post op programme. It allows another way of working and removes gravity from the equation. There are many advantages to working in the warm water and it is a wonderful addition to be able to offer.
We have worked with children who have been terrified of water and through gentle coaxing and building up of trust and rapport have guided them through a programme which has resulted in a love of being in the pool.
The 3D environment means that rotation in various planes of movement is much easier than on land and because of the feeling of being well supported. It is often the first place we can get a child to really start experimenting with certain movements.
The pool also allows many children an environment to raise heart rates and get out of breath which is sometimes harder to do on land.
It is a great place to work on building up stamina and endurance without realising it.
Working in the water is fun – often the children just think they are coming to play and have no idea how hard they are working.
We have access to an amazing Hydrotherapy Pool which was opened in 2014 just five minutes down the road from the clinic with easy access, specialised lighting and other wonderful sensory effects.
We offer our children single (20 mins) or double (40 mins) 1:1 sessions in the water with the therapist.
