Meet THE TEam
Wendy Joy MCSP
Wendy trained in London qualifying in 1991.She has many years of paediatric physiotherapy experience in various settings both in the NHS and also privately. She set up Total Children’s Therapy in December 2006- a large paediatric multi-disciplinary practice based in Bournemouth. She works at TCT full time combining her clinical work with some lecturing and consultancy work around the UK.
She has experience working with a range of age groups who have undergone SDR surgery and thoroughly enjoys getting to know the families she works with and watching the progress of the children.
Wendy is also an experienced hydrotherapy practitioner and has worked in many hydro pools. She feels that hydrotherapy is a highly valuable tool to incorporate into pre-habilitation and rehabilitation programmes.
Wendy wanted to be a physio from the age of 14 and really loves her work. She attends regular courses and conferences to keep her skills up to date and enjoys networking with other physios around the UK. Wendy is a firm believer that physiotherapy should not be boring. She believes sessions should be good fun for all those involved so that the children are not necessarily aware of how hard they are working. She finds this also encourages compliance whilst being of maximum benefit.
Wendy has thoroughly enjoyed working with a number of children who have been preparing for or have undergone SDR surgery. She has been very aware that every case has been different and likes the fact that she is part of a team that can work in different ways to tailor a bespoke service for each of the families she works with.
JANE REYNOLDS MSCP
Jane is a competent and confident paediatric physiotherapist with 15 experience of physiotherapy, the last 10 specializing in children’s physiotherapy, both in the NHS and in private practice.
She is a Bobath trained physiotherapist with skills in working with and optimising motor skills of children with cerebral palsy or with abnormal tone.
She first came across SDR in 2006 when one of her patients went to St Louis for the procedure. Since then she has been involved with many children who have had the procedure both in the US and the UK. She has also visited the team at St Louis and at Great Ormond Street and absolutely believes it changes the lives of the children and families who undertake this in the most positive of ways.
To the families she is involved with, she is empathetic to the stresses and strains that they experience pre-op, during the operative period and post operatively, and will always be dynamic and holistic in the treatments she offers, being supportive and encouraging at all times.
It’s her eye for movement patterns and how to achieve good patterns which sets her apart from many of her peers, able to combine neurological training and strength training to produce the highest quality of movement in the children she works with.
KATHRYN ROBINSON MSCP
After graduating from Sheffield Hallam University in 2004, Kat joined Bradford Teaching Hospitals Trust where she developed her love of Paediatrics after joining the team in 2006. She completed an MSc in 2010 where her research project on multilevel surgery in children with Cerebral Palsy first heightened her knowledge about SDR.
After relocating from Yorkshire in 2011, she joined the team at Total Children’s Therapy which she now combines with a part-time role in the NHS. She loves being able to make therapy enjoyable and working towards shared goals with the children and families she works with.
Kat enjoys community working and including trips to the park or beach as part of her therapy sessions. She has been working with children pre and post SDR for 3 years and feels a key part of the intensive physiotherapy process is to make the sessions fun.
Kat’s special interest is working with children with long-term neurological conditions and she completed the Foundation Bobath Course in 2013. Kat has also completed post-graduate hydrotherapy training and is a member of the CSP and HPC.
